Executive Director, FareStart

 

Ms. Megan Karch has served as Executive Director of FareStart, a social entrepreneurial organization dedicated to transforming the lives of homeless men and women in the Seattle/King County region, for the last eight years. 

FareStart recently purchased and renovated a 33,000 sq ft building in the downtown area housing their main restaurant and catering business, training program and administrative offices.  FareStart was awarded Downtown Seattle Associations (DSA) 2007 Champion, the Mayors End Hunger award, Seattle Human Services Coalition Organization of the Year, and was most recently awarded Best Lunch spot by Seattle Metropolitan magazine.

Prior to joining FareStart, Ms. Karch lived in the Baltimore/Washington DC area where she held the position of Vice President of Vocational Services for Humanism, a non profit human services agency, for 11 years.  She has 20 years of not for profit experience working with individuals with disabilities, welfare to work, homeless, or otherwise hard to employ.  Her expertise has been in developing programs that emphasize business/non profit partnerships, and social entrepreneurial projects.  

Ms. Karch serves as a President-Elect at the Executive Alliance, a member of the Governors State Advisory Board on Homelessness, Board Member of Kitchens with Mission, and as a member of the Downtown Seattle Association (DSA) Human Services Committee.  Ms. Karch was named to the Puget Sound Business Journals 40 under 40 list in 2005 and the top twenty Women of Influence in Puget Sound in 2007.
