Read about it: NPower helps a nonprofit migrate to Pocket PCs and more!
Background
FaithTrust Institute is a nonprofit organization headquartered in Seattle, Washington. Founded in 1977 by the Rev. Marie M. Fortune, FaithTrust Institute is an inter-religious educational resource addressing issues of sexual and domestic violence. Their goal is to engage religious leaders in the task of ending abuse, and to serve as a bridge between religious and secular communities. NPower has been working with FaithTrust Institute since 1999 to provide support for their technology.
The Challenges
FaithTrust Institute staff members had two primary needs for an upgrade: remote access (since much of their work is in the field away from the office) and reduced volume of spam. New software would allow them to use Pocket PC technology to manage their calendars, inbox and to-do lists while in the field. In addition, they had gone through a name change and needed to change their domain.
The Solution
NPower created a six-step scope of work, beginning with a planning phase, rolling out a new server and new software for workstations, implementing remote access and Pocket PC technology solutions, and finishing with documentation and follow-up work. Greg McDonald and Lloyd Cox implemented this project on a Thursday and Friday when few staff were in the office, saving FaithTrust Institute a considerable amount of down time. FaithTrust Institute team members now enjoy:
- A largely spam free office
- The ability to check email, calendars and to do lists from Pocket PC's
- A new and stable server
- Shared office productivity software
