More than 300 attend NPower's Largest Event Ever!
Podcast wins 2008 NPower Innovation Awards
February 7, 2008 Seattle, WA: At Seattle's Grand Hyatt, in front of a record crowd, Planned Parenthood's "Speaking of Sex" Podcast was awarded the 2008 NPower Innovation Award. The lunch event drew more than 300 people from the corporate world as well as community and non-profit leaders. The Innovation Awards provide a venue each year to highlight incredibly creative and effective use of technology within the non-profit community. The event is also NPower Seattle's largest fundraiser. Including sponsorships, this year more than $125,000 was raised. "We are absolutely thrilled at the outcome" said NPower's Christopher Logan. "This event provides a voice not only for non-profits using new technologies, but also for the corporate world to come out and show their support for something important to our communities."
Sponsored by Accenture, the annual award highlights the importance of technology as well as the importance of supporting NPower's vision of a thriving and robust nonprofit sector. Other sponsors included Microsoft, Boeing, and BuzzBee Communications.
Alison McCaffree, NPower Seattle's new Executive Director, led the day's discussion with a rousing talk about how technology makes an impact, and how NPower Seattle has helped so many agencies succeed. "By helping our customers to stand, then walk, then run with technology, NPower is transforming what is possible. People helping people transform what is possible" said Alison.
The highlight of the luncheon was the keynote speech by Martha Choe of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Martha spoke about the work of the Gates Foundation around the world, and how technology plays an important role in change.
The funds raised at the event are used to help support NPower Seattle's mission to put technology know-how in the hands of nonprofits.
